Detroit – Not Just Beautiful for Car Enthusiasts

Posted on October 11, 2021October 11, 2021 by homosociety

If you take a closer look at the geographical location of Detroit, then the traveler’s heart can beat faster. Located in the northeastern United States on a huge lake, and a stone’s throw from Canada. According to diseaseslearning, Detroit is the largest city in Michigan.

Why is this city actually ranked under “also ran” when it comes to popular travel destinations in the USA ? Perhaps it’s because Detroit thinks of cars more than boats, of large companies and factories, rather than vacations and vacations. It’s a shame, actually, because Detroit has a lot to offer that make a stay exciting, relaxing and worthwhile.

Still: First a section about engines

Ford, Chrysler, General Motors. Even if this trio no longer exists today, it has determined the history and rise of Detroit. In this city, car history has been and will continue to be written. Because every January the International Auto Show takes place here, where the latest developments from the manufacturers are presented to an amazed audience. The show is impressively accompanied by many events in the city, such as the Woodward Dream Cruise Parade, where connoisseurs can admire historic muscle cars. January is therefore the ideal travel time for everyone who loves cars and is interested in engines. But be careful, if you have been there once, you will always want to go back!

From Detroit into pure nature

Do you enjoy water sports? Then take off and fly to Detroit! The close proximity of the city to the “Great Lakes” guarantees a lot of fun for those who are not afraid of water. Boating, swimming, water skiing, fishing – everything is possible and everything is allowed here. Not all in the same place at once, of course, but don’t worry; Nobody has to worry about enough space here. If you want to enjoy your leisure activities with dry feet for a change, you could make the short trip over to Canada. Don’t forget your hiking boots, your bike helmet or your riding pants; the sport and leisure opportunities are really diverse there.

Downtown Detroit

As nice as Detroit is as a base for excursions, it is also nice to just stay in the city and enjoy the sights. On the Detroit International Riverfront alone, you can easily spend (at least) a full day. The promenade runs along the Detroit River, on the opposite bank of which is the Canadian town of Windsor. From here the visitor has everything in view. The “Belle Isle” for example, a small island that offers a public bathing beach, a small botanical garden with a focus on orchids as well as pretty shops and snack bars. Or the Detroit Dock, where the giant cruise ships from all over the world anchor.

Like it or not, you will pass Hart Plaza, which can be addicting Detroit at night. The huge square is in front of the city skyline, which is reflected in the water here. There is almost always something going on there, either an organized event or casual gatherings of street performers, jugglers and musicians. In this respect, the plaza only gets competition from Chene Park. This is an amphitheater that can seat around 6000 visitors. Open-air concerts are held here on warm nights. Detroit is nicknamed “Motown”, which is sure to sound good with music fans. The city’s music scene doesn’t get stuck in the past, however successful it may have been. This is why there is now an internationally recognized rap scene in Detroit.

It just doesn’t work without Henry Ford

He was one of the most outstanding entrepreneurial personalities the US has ever had. No visit to Detroit is “round” that skips the sights around Henry Ford. In addition, the “Henry Ford Museum” in the suburb of Dearborn is one of the most famous American museums of all. Even those who are not interested in engines and assembly lines can see exciting exhibits here. For example the car in which John F. Kennedy was shot in 1963. Or the cot that George Washington slept in. Ford was not only an entrepreneur, but also a collector. He has collected a lot of things related to the history of the USA for the museum in Detroit. For example, he had Thomas Edison’s laboratory and the Wright brothers’ workshop removed and rebuilt in the surrounding Greenfield Village.
