National Park South Luangwa (South Luangwa) – a visiting card of African wildlife – covers a vast area of ​​9 thousand square meters. km. This is one of the best animal watching opportunities in Africa. The Luangwa Valley lies in a depression surrounded by a mountain plateau (800 m) towering nearby. A winding river of the same name flows through the center of the valley, which, together with its numerous tributaries, is the source of life for the local flora and fauna. South Luangwa has one of the largest populations of elephants in Africa, a huge number of other herbivores and carnivores, a large number of antelopes, especially the impala, kudu markup antelope and bushbuck forest antelope.

Luangwa is a birdwatcher’s paradise with over 400 bird species. When visiting South Luangwa, you can combine accommodation in stationary lodges and camps with tent camps, hiking safaris are developed. Some park areas and lodges close during the rainy season.

How to get there. Flight to Mfuwe Airport (from Lusaka 1 hour 10 minutes), then by air charter or ground transfer.

North Luangva (North Luangva) covers an area of ​​more than 4.6 thousand square meters. km, a lesser known place, a wilder corner of Africa.

National Park Kafue (Kafue) covers an area of ​​22.5 thousand square meters. km. This is one of the largest national parks in the world. It is formed in the valley of the Kafu River and its tributaries. Here you can see elephants, buffaloes, leopards, lions (especially in the Busanga Plains area) and many antelopes, as well as 400 varieties of birds. Boat excursions are conducted on the river Kafu (Cafe) and on Lake Itezhi_Tezhi on a large vessel with a special kind of upper deck, from where a bird’s-eye view of the animal world opens. Animals in and close to the water include hippos, crocodiles, monitor lizards, puku waterbuck, bushbuck and impala.

Lochinvar (Lochinvar). South of the Kafue Plains lies the Lochinvar National Park, over 400 sq. km. It is divided into three zones – the northern floodplain, the central plains and the southern woodland. Thousands of herds of graceful lechve antelopes walk in the lands of the floodplain. There are more than 30 thousand heads of this species of antelope in Lochinvar, as well as over 420 species of birds.

How to get there. 45 min. flight from Lusaka or 4 hours by ground transfer.

National Park Kasanka. Its area is only 420 sq. km, but it belongs to the most attractive national parks of the country. The park sits on the edge of the vast wetlands of Bangweulu Lake, where sitatunga antelopes live in papyrus swamps. Even the marsh heron can occasionally be found here, and during the rainy season more than a million fruit bats fly here to breed. Elephants, hippos, several species of antelopes live in the park, as well as warthogs, bushpigs, baboons, green and blue monkeys, African colors (an animal between a marten and a cat), jackals, hyenas and leopards. Kasanka is of particular interest to bird lovers. Here you can meet individuals that are not found anywhere else in the South African region.

How to get there. 6 h by ground transfer from Lusaka or 1 h 15 min. flight from Lusaka.

Lake Kariba (Kariba) – one of the largest artificial reservoirs in the world (280 km long and 32 km wide) – attracts a huge variety of animals and birds to its shores. Fishing for tiger fish and Nile perch is popular here, and competitions are held annually.

How to get there. About an hour and a half by road from Lusaka.

The Nyika Plateau stretches across the Zambian border with Malawi. A small part of the plateau with an area of ​​80 sq. km covers the Zambian side. The fauna here is very diverse: zebras, horse antelopes, elands, pygmy antelopes, wading goats, hyenas, jackals and leopards. The park is located on a high plateau (more than 2 thousand km above sea level), which explains the presence of tropical alpine flora in the park.

How to get there. Air charter.

Sumbu National Park with a total area of ​​more than 2 thousand square meters. km is located in the very north of Zambia, on the shores of Lake Tanganyika. This is an area not yet developed by tourists with many animals and birds. Particularly large populations of lions and leopards should be noted. During the migration, you can see many flamingos on the lake.
